Windsurfing on Maui

Windsurfing on the island of Maui!

Maui is known through out the world for its excellent windsurfing. Maui’s northshore attracts some of the best windsurfers in the world. Hookipa Maui is the main beach on Maui that serves up excellent wind conditions and surf. There are other places like Spreckelsville beach front that serves for launching pads for kiters and windsurfers alike.

Maui is also the host of major windsurfing events that draw windsurfers from all over the world. My self I am a late bloomer, been a surfer on Maui most of my life. In the last three and half years I decided to give a serious try. With the encouragement of business like Kim Ball owner of Hi-Tech Maui who let me use equipment to learn on and the guidence of Lalo and Francisco Goya who kept me in state of the art gear I can now say I am a windsurfer on Maui. I am actually on the Da-Kine windsurf team thanks to my son and the crew at Da-kine.

I usually windsurf at Kanaha and Sprecks on Maui. I surf at Hookipa but not quite ready to windsurf there yet, soon. Through the years Maui has had many world class windsurfers like Robbie Nash, Simmer brothers, Mark and Josh Anglou, Craig Masonville and Dana and Kelby Ano. My current heros include Levi Shiver from Goya, great windsurfer and cool guy. On any given day you will find world class windsurfers tearing up the surf, doing amazing stunts on their sailboards.

Hugh Surf Northshore Maui at Jaws

Winter is here on Maui, we just had our first high surf advisory and the waves delivered. I drove out to Jaws to do a little filming, I love it when Jaws goes off. Well I wasn’t disappointed with the 2nd day of Jaws coming a live. With winds light and the right swell directions it was on. Surfers from California, Oahu and the Big Island flew in to have a chance and some really good surf.

Winter has arrived on Maui and we been having perfect weather. It is also a great time to be looking for homes or condos before the snowbirds fly in around Christmas.
