During my three years with the Wailea Group, I was part of sales teams for prestigious properties such as Wailea Beach Villas, Papali Wailea, Hoolei Wailea, and Wailea Fairway Villas. My life and family
Living in Maui has been an incredible journey. I arrived on the island at 19 with only a hundred dollars and a surfboard. By age 25, I had built my first home in Haiku. Since then, my wife Ivy and I have been married for 40 years, and we have built four homes. We have been living on our Haiku 2-acre property for 34 years. The real success in my life is my family. Ivy and I have raised four wonderful children, all thriving and growing their families.
I have been surfing most of my life and started windsurfing eight years ago. I also sail cats. I love snowboarding. I competed in surf contests for ten years alongside my boys, who are excellent surfers. In my spare time, I love to travel the world with my wife, garden at home, and play my guitar. Life has been good to me in Maui.

A recent article in Elite’s Newsletter January 2019
Last August, Steve accepted an SPRE referral, a hardship situation. The Seller absolutely had to sell in order to move forward with any financial footing, yet they had no funds to cover anything. In the true spirit of “treating every transaction as if it were his own,” Steve reached into his own pocket to get the property sold and closed, including property cleaning, removing automobiles from the site, and much, much more. He also helped every potential Buyer see past the condition to realize the property’s value. Without Steve, the Seller would have lost the home and suffered greatly. The house closed this week, and Steve noted, “The seller is thrilled, and I was happy to help him move on with his life.”
Treating every transaction as our own is not just something we say. It’s something we do. Steve, thank you so much!

Community Aloha
Maui Realtor helps kids at Camp Pilialoha Maui
First, I want to say it was a pleasure to work alongside 40 other people who made this four-day event happen at Camp Pilialoha O Maui. I want to quote excerpts from the Maui News article written by Sarah Ruppenthal. According to the National Resource Center on Children and Families of Incarcerated Children, more than 2.7 million children have incarcerated parents.
I have the pleasure of knowing Derek and Julie Smith. They attend my church at Hope Chapel in Kihei Maui. Derek works in the prison ministry, reaching out to inmates, giving them hope, and finding them homes and jobs when they are released.
Well, fast forward, and you have Camp Pilialoha O Maui. This is the fourth year on Maui. Derek and Julie have put on this huge event with the help of many hands from local churches, the Maui community, and some of our part-time snowbird residents from Makena and the West Side of Maui. There is a constant flow of activities, live music, and inspiration over the four days. My wife Ivy and I have had the pleasure of working with Derek and Julie for the past three years and with 40 other volunteers. Our duties started out cleaning cabins, In the last couple of years, it’s been washing dishes and serving food, working with the kids, and breaking down the camp.
It’s amazing to see the kids so excited; some have returned and become junior counselors. You find yourself working alongside doctors, windsurfers, and working people in the community who give their time and resources. All in all, I am proud to be part of this team that is making a difference in these children’s life and in the community of Maui.
Philippines Outreach.
Over the years, I have been involved with Hope Chapel in Kihei and worked with youth along with my wife. I had the pleasure of visiting the Philippines (2011) and putting on a surf contest and sports camps for kids in the outer islands of Sariago with a group of men from Bank of Hawaii, Trilogy, contractors, and tattoo artists.
We brought down, thanks to Hawaiian Airlines, surfboards, skateboards, and clothes and put on a surf event for 150 kids on the outer islands, serving food and having fun with the kids. Kids were coming out of the woodwork. We put on sports camps in the local schools, which was a lot of fun. I didn’t mention that we surfed some really good waves down there. We also worked on a youth center, upgrading the buildings and building skateboard ramps. I have also raised funds for relief projects to rebuild homes that Thyhoon destroyed when hit in the Philippines.
Lahaina Fires 2023
Maui’s loss of Lahaina and homes destroyed in Upcountry Kula was heartbreaking. However, the positive side of the fires was the Maui communities’ coming together. Lahaina Road was closed, and Boats like the Trilogy rescued stranded people off of Front Street. After the smoke cleared, Maui County dropped the ball, helping stranded people on the Lahaina side. The local community came out in force; firemen, fishermen, big wave surfers with boats, and jet skis started moving supplies to the west side of the island. Maui people were buying supplies to deliver to the men at Maalaea Harbour.
There were a lot of options to jump in and help Maui fire victims. Networks were formed to raise supplies, food, etc. I received a text they needed men with chainsaws to remove trees in Kula. Having a chainsaw off, I went to Kula for the next two days, cutting up trees with a crew. Next was a text to help cook food at the homeless shelter. I spent a couple of afternoons assisting the crew in preparing dinners alongside my fellow realtors.
Containers were coming in with supplies from private parties on the mainland. My daughter and Maui friends in San Clemente filled two or three containers with generators, tents, supplies for babies and mothers, etc. So my other job was hauling goods to the west side when they came in. I made a couple of runs with my truck. People volunteer to man and organize these operations. It was very impressive to see Maui coming together. Clients sent me money to donate to firemen who lost their homes and kept fighting fires.
I am so proud of the Maui Ohana; some amazing stories are still to be told.
