Thanksgiving on Maui
It’s hard to believe that winter is here and it’s Thanksgiving on Maui. It’s actually been pretty exciting with a couple of big events on Maui’s Northshore. The Nova Nova Aloha Classic windsurfing event was recently completed. We had very exciting conditions at Hookipa Beach Park with lots of surf and strong winds. Winning the event was Maui’s Kevin Pritchard, beating out an international field of competitors.
Another event on Maui’s Northshore was the Peahi Challenge, held at what is known among the locals as Jaws. Waves were 25 ft. and very challenging. I was thankful to get a VIP pass to the event. Conditions were perfect with glassy waves and big surf. It was a little tough for the women, but the men were charging to claim the title. Surfers from all around the world competed for the title. The honoring titles went to Billy Kemper of Maui for the men and Paige Alms for the women.
Maui has so much to offer, so many things to do. Here are a couple things that you might want to check out while on Maui:
If you’re driving out to Lahaina side of the island and you like Hawaiian music, head out to Napili Kai Beach Club to catch the George Kahumoku slack key show. I am a big fan of George, his slack key guitar playing is amazing, not to mention his beautiful voice. They have a dinner show, and also another show if you want to pass on dinner, a great way to spend the evening.
If this is your first trip to Maui, the Lahaina Luau is a must. Experience Hawaiian food, Hawaiian dancers and music. They really put on a great show and you will love the Hawaiian food. This is the #1 ranked Luau on Maui.
If you’re in Wailea, and love live music. The Shops at Wailea on Wednesday nights at 6:30 is the place to be. They feature local Hawaiian artist, dancers, a very popular way to spend that afternoon in Wailea Resort. After the show there are a number of great restaurants in the Shops at Wailea.
This Nov 26th at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center starting at 6pm in the Castle Theater. New movie Distance Between Dreams, Maui Premiere captures the historic journey of Ian Walsh and big wave surfing. Should be a fun evening experiencing at art of big wave surfing.
Always a Maui favorite is a trip up to Haleakala Crater. Make sure it’s a clear day to enjoy a sunrise, or sunset. One tip is bringing some warm clothes. This might be a tropical island, but it can get freezing. If your feeling adventurous, bring your hiking boots. Inside the crater is like nowhere on the planet.
So as Thanksgiving is upon us, I want to wish you a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season. If you’re thinking about buying or selling real estate on Maui, give me a call. 21 years selling real estate on Maui.
